I started baking celebration cakes about two years ago, mostly for family birthdays and the odd wedding favour for friends. The baking part I had sorted. The presentation? Not so much. My cakes looked fine sitting on a plate, but they never had that finished look. That is how I ended up on Prop Options one late evening, scrolling through their stands and separators with a cup of tea going cold next to me.

What Prop Options actually sells

It is a UK brand run by Brad and Emily, and they design and make cake stands, serving boards, cake separators and various event props. There is a lot here. Pedestal stands, acrylic spacers, fillable clear tiers, cupcake and macaron stands, plus baking tools like rolling pins, stencils and cake boards. I went in wanting one thing and left with three items in my basket, which tells you something.

What stood out to me

A few things genuinely surprised me once my order arrived.

  • The quality feels premium. I ordered the Ultra Polished Clear Acrylic Separator and it is heavy, properly finished, no rough edges. It photographs beautifully.
  • The PropSecure floating separators. These let you create that gap between tiers without dowels showing, and mine held a heavier tier without any wobble.
  • They reply themselves. I emailed a question about sizing and got a real answer from an actual person, not a copy paste script.

The range also covers cakes under 10 inches and over 10 inches, so I did not have to guess whether a stand would suit my usual sizes. Free UK shipping kicks in over 75 pounds, which nudged me toward the extra spacer I probably needed anyway.

The bits that could be better

Nothing is perfect. A couple of honest gripes. First, the prices are not cheap. A single separator can run you 24 pounds or more, and if you are just starting out that adds up fast. Second, there is so much choice that I found the site a little overwhelming at first. I spent a while going back and forth before I understood which spacer worked with which stand. A simple starter guide would have helped me.

My verdict

Would I order again? Yes, and I already have. The stands have lasted, they clean up easily, and my cakes finally look the way I pictured them in my head. The 4.9 rating on Trustpilot lines up with my own experience, and the fact that Brad and Emily reply directly makes it feel like buying from real people rather than a faceless shop. If you make cakes and you are tired of props that look flimsy, Prop Options is worth a proper look. Start with one separator, see how it feels, and go from there.
