I have been on the hunt for a nail polish that lets me keep up with my wudu without scrubbing everything off first. A friend mentioned LENA and I finally caved and ordered a few bottles. Here is how it went after a couple of weeks of actually wearing it.

What LENA offers

The whole idea here is breathable, water-permeable polish that is marketed as halal-friendly. On top of that it is vegan and cruelty-free. The shade range is huge, and the names made me laugh out loud (“Bubblegum Baklava”, “Don’t Rish-ta Me”, “Chai-d Up in Karachi”). There are creams, mattes, glitters, French manicure sets and even a peel-off range for kids.

What stood out

The breathable claim actually seems real

They publish a permeability report on the site, which I appreciated. I did the little water-drop test people talk about and water did pass through. Whether that satisfies your personal ruling is up to you, but I liked that they are open about it rather than just slapping a label on.

The colours are genuinely nice

I picked Rosé in Riyadh and a pastel blue. Both went on smooth with two coats. The pastel needed a careful hand, but the finish looked clean once dry.

Prices and bundles

Single bottles sit around £8.50 in the sale (normally £12.50), and the bundles bring that down further. A few points worth knowing:

  • Free UK shipping over £30
  • Free remover on UK orders over £40
  • Bundles often work out cheaper per bottle

The small downsides

I will be honest. The pastel shade took a bit longer to dry than I expected, so I smudged one nail reaching for my phone. Wear time was solid but not endless, I got a good few days before the tips started going. And the sheer numbers of shades is fun but a little overwhelming when you just want to pick one.

My verdict

For the price, I am happy. The polish does what it says, the colours are pretty, and the branding has personality without trying too hard. If you have been looking for breathable polish that does not cost a fortune, LENA is worth a look. I will be reordering, probably a bundle next time so I stop paying full postage.
