I am always looking for something to do that isn’t just sitting in a bar or wandering around a museum for the tenth time. A friend of mine suggested Escapetours.com for a Saturday out, and since four of us were free, we booked a team ticket and gave it a go. Here is how it went.
What Escapetours.com actually is
Think of it as an escape room, but the whole city is your playing field. You play on your own phone, follow clues through the streets, solve puzzles, and try to find the so called secret exit within about two hours. They cover more than 200 cities worldwide, so chances are your town is on the list. We did ours in Utrecht.

Pick from 200+ cities, start whenever you want, and play on your own phone for 29,95 euro per team. A fun way to explore a city with friends, family or colleagues.
The team ticket cost 29,95 euro for two to four people, which honestly felt fair split between the four of us. You start whenever you want, no fixed time slot, which was handy because we were running late that morning.
What stood out to me
A few things genuinely surprised me in a good way.
- The routes take you to odd little corners. We ended up in an alley none of us knew existed, and we all live nearby. That part was actually the best bit.
- The puzzles have variety. Some were quick, a couple were properly tricky and got us arguing (in a fun way).
- You go at your own pace. You can rush for the wall of fame or take it slow with coffee stops. We took it slow.
The little things that could be better
It wasn’t perfect. Two of the clue locations were confusing, and we stood around for a good ten minutes convinced the app was wrong before we spotted the detail we’d missed. A slightly clearer hint would have saved us the frustration. Also, the rating sits around 4.3 across a lot of reviews, and I get why. It is really good, not flawless.
My verdict
Would I do it again? Yes, and I already suggested it for a friend’s birthday. It works great for a group, a date, or even a family day out. The price is reasonable, the setup is easy, and you actually see your own city differently by the end. If you want a day out that gets everyone off their phones (well, mostly) and moving around together, Escapetours.com is an easy recommendation. Just be patient with those couple of tricky clues.
